Dear Parents and Players
Some final important information:
Please note that the TSA Code of Conduct applies for the Cavalier Trials.
https://www.tennissa.co.za/w/rules-officials/code-of-conduct/tsa-code-of-conduct-update
Although we understand that these are sometimes inexperienced Primary School players, and leniency must be shown in some areas of this conduct, the below is non-negotiables and we expect all players, parents and spectators to adhere to this.
1. Please be on time (15minutes before scheduled play time) and report to the court convenor. Your playing time is a NOT BEFORE TIME. We will not be looking or phoning around for players. Be sure you are the courts, close to the convenors table- they do not have time to find players.
.2. Players may wear any tennis clothes for this round of the trials ( in other words not school sport clothes or regional outfits)- guidelines may be found in the Code of Conduct. Please remember hats and sunscreen!
3. Parents please do not interfere/communicate with players on the court. If there is a problem on the court, the player must call the court convenor. We understand the rule is that a player may not leave the court-however, this is not always practical, so for this tournament the rule will be as follows: If a player wants to call the official for a problem on court, you must tell your opponent you are leaving to call the official, and you must leave your racket on the court. Your parent may NOT call the official on your behalf.
4. Parents or spectators hanging on the fence or sitting up close against the courts to intimidate the opponent will be asked to move away from the court.
5. Ball abuse, racket abuse, language abuse and unsportsmanlike behaviour will not be tolerated. Please go through the conduct with your player
6. The following areas of player intimidation will also be considered “Unsportsmanlike Conduct” and are not necessarily limited to these examples only: Player shouting “Come on” while facing their opponent, irrespective of how close or far away from the net/opponent; Players doing “fist pumps” while facing their opponent, irrespective of how close or far away from the net/opponent; Players making any type of remark concerning the playing ability or result of a rally resulting in their opponent winning the point that is deemed to be derogatory. i.e. “Lucky shot”, “he/she is so lucky today”, “try using the strings”; This interpretation is not restricted to only these three types of examples as there are many other statements that will be classified to be derogatory.
7. Calls must be clear and loud and players must say the score out loud before each point to avoid confusion.
8. One bathroom break is allowed in a match. This break may only be at the end of a set. Players may not leave for bathroom breaks in the middle of a set. Parents or spectators may NOT accompany the player on this bathroom break!
9. Players shall not at any time verbally abuse any official, opponent, spectator or other person within the precincts of the tournament site. For the purposes of this Rule, verbal abuse is defined as a statement about an official, opponent, sponsor, spectator or other person that implies dishonesty or is derogatory, insulting or otherwise abusive. In addition, Verbal Abuse will also include any statements made in electronic format via any form of electronic media (email, Facebook, Twitter, Whatsapp, SMS, etc.) that either infers or implies dishonesty, is considered derogatory, insulting, abusive, or is considered attacking a person or group in terms of gender, race, nationality, gender, disability or religion (i.e. Hate Speech).
10. Please treat officials, court convenors, opponents and other parents with respect. We also ask that we keep the venues and court area clean.
